Kevin Gosztola“Counterinsurgency Wars: From Gaza to Ferguson” with Kevin Gosztola

On this edition of Demanufacturing Consent: Guillermo is joined by Kevin Gosztola, independent journalist, writer, and co-author of the book Truth and Consequences: The US vs. Private Manning. We discuss the ongoing situation in Ferguson, Missouri, the killing of Michael Brown, and the problems in police accountability and incremental militarization that have led to this disastrous scenario.

We also go over the counterinsurgency and paramilitary tactics employed by police in Ferguson, and throughout the United States, and the similarities in how occupying forces operate in places like Gaza.

Lastly, we touch on the role of the media, both in the way events have been reported and how police forces in Ferguson have deliberately targeted journalists to suppress information.
